Cleaning your gutters is a major pain in the rear. I know.
But there are several major reasons you must keep your gutters clean. If you don’t, you could find yourself having to spend several hundred or even several thousand dollars on repairs for the damage that was caused by your gutters failing to drain like they’re supposed to.
Not only that, but cleaning your own gutters can be frustrating and even dangerous.
This is Tracy Bookman, the owner of Homestead Roofing, and I want to help you understand why you need to keep your gutters clean and how to clean them yourself if you want to. This guide should take away any fears, frustration, or confusion you may have as you consider cleaning your gutters, or, if you decide that task isn’t for you, and you want to try to find someone who can help you with your gutters, I’ll show you how to do that, too.
That’s why I created this Homeowner Gutter Resource Guide, entitled:
Your Clogged Gutters And Downspouts Could Cause Huge Repair Bills For Your House
In this resource guide you’ll discover exactly which questions you need to be asking yourself, AND which questions to ask gutter cleaners so that you can make an informed decision about choosing the right person or company to do this service for you.
It’s been designed in a simple, easy to understand way, so you won’t have any more sleepless nights or anxious days during a rain storm, worrying about water damaging the interior or exterior of your home, ruining drywall or wood, and causing THOUSANDS of dollars of expensive repairs.
Okay, let’s get started!
But First, Who Am I And Why Should You Listen To Me?
As I said, my name is Tracy Bookman and I own Homestead Roofing.
I’m a 5th-generation native of Colorado Springs. My great-great-grandfather and grandmother moved here in 1880 when Colorado Springs was only a few years old. They and their son, my great-grandfather, built 3 houses on West Dale Street, right behind the original Bristol Elementary School. All 3 of the houses are still there and in fact, one of them is owned by the curator of the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum!
So we’ve been in Colorado Springs a long time and we have a history of business ownership. My grandfather, Fred Wager, owned Jay’s Bike Shop downtown, at 19 E. Kiowa St., and my great-uncle owned the Stockdale Packard Motor car dealership downtown at what was then 15 North Nevada Ave. (now it’s just a parking lot).
I guess you could say that being an entrepreneur is in my blood.
I’ve started a few different businesses, and sold a couple of them, and now I have the privilege of helping homeowners work through the confusing maze of insurance claims, roof repairs, and roof replacements, as well as help them clean their gutters, too.
Okay, now that you know a little about me let’s get into what you need to know to get your gutters cleaned out.
First, you need to know WHY your gutters need to be cleaned. Without understanding why it’s important, you may lack the motivation to do it.
8 Reasons You MUST Keep Your Gutters Clean, Or Face Costly Home Repairs
Reason #1: Critters
All kinds of creepy, crawly things can make their home inside the leaf litter or pine needles in your gutters. I
recently cleaned gutters at a house that had a crabapple tree overhanging one of the gutters and the gutter was loaded with crabapples. That’s a tasty treat for a number of unwelcome pests. It just so happened that this gutter was also filled with earwigs living under the dead leaves.
I’ll say it… Earwigs are disgusting!
If you’re encouraging pests to live in your gutters, don’t be surprised if they end up inside your home. That will result in an expensive visit by an exterminator.
Reason #2: Overflowing water can ruin fascia and soffit wood
Reason #3: Overflowing water can ruin stucco and siding
Reason #4: Overflowing water can seep inside your home and ruin drywall
Reason #5: Clogged steel gutters will rust
Reason #6: Clogged gutters gain a lot of weight
Reason #7: Overflowing water can ruin your home’s foundation
Reason #8: Clogged gutters will create ice dams
